My Journey into Aesthetics. . .
Working as an NHS midwife can be the most rewarding job, and yet the rewards are often eclipsed by the many difficulties associated with being a midwife (A whole other blog). Even with passion and dedication it is hard on the body and soul. . . well mine anyway. So I found myself wondering (not when I’m at work cos it's too damned busy) what could I do that utilises the many clinical skills I have gained within my practice, but also feeds into my self professed natural artistic ability (one that I had not nurtured for many years).
The lightbulb moment came whilst travelling by bus to Lindos on Rhodes Island with my family. A young woman boarded the bus, she had quite obviously had her lips filled, unfortunately it was clear that she had not attended a practitioner with the skill to achieve a natural looking result. She may have been really happy with the results, may have asked for the outcome she displayed, or may have been really unhappy, something I will never know. . . I thought it would be rude to ask!
I started to notice myself showing signs of ageing and wanted rejuvenation treatments, but I just didn’t know where to go or who to trust. It was this young woman together with the off-putting, unnatural images I saw in the media that made me start to do some research into facial aesthetics. I soon realised that as a registered medical professional that I was in a position to be qualified to undertake the highest standard of training in injectables in the UK. I also discovered how unregulated the aesthetic industry actually is. With laypersons allowed to inject as long as they have attended a one day course and have a prescriber available to them (If injecting Botulinum Toxin).
Fast forward almost a year, I have completed all of the practical training required to complete the Level 7 diploma in aesthetic injectables (way more than a one day course), I am also in the middle of a Cosmetic dermatology course (both with Harley Academy in London). AND, continue to catch babies.
I am in a very lucky position, in that I have been able to build my own beautiful clinic with the help of some local fabulous and talented tradespeople who I feel should get a shout out.
Eric Phillips of Premier Carpenters & Builders (where is your website Eric?) Tel: 07785 918368, who built a stunning clinic from a rough drawing out of my head.
Tony of The Portland Window Company, sorry for being a pain Tony.
Glenn of GDS Air Conditioning, for making the perfect environment to work in all year round.
Flooring laid to perfection by Daniel James flooring.
And last but by no means least . . . Husband, not a trades person but a hugely supportive and encouraging force (both emotionally and financially), I couldn’t have done this without you, thank you.
