Cryopen
Cryotherapy
With GPs no longer offering the removal of benign skin lesions for cosmetic purposes, private treatment becomes the only option for the removal of problematic or unsightly skin lesions.
Cryotherapy or cryosurgery is a highly effective and safe option used to freeze and destroy benign skin lesions. It uses liquefied nitrous oxide to destroy the tissue by freezing the fluid within the cells forming ice shards that rupture the cell wall in turn destroying the cell and therefore the lesion.
Cryotherapy is a quick and relatively pain free treatment that requires no anaesthesia and has minimal scarring. The treatment does not limit daily activities which can be returned to immediately following treatment, I only ask that you protect the area from damage or abrasion, full aftercare instructions are provided.
In my clinic, I offer this treatment using Cryopen which delivers an ultra cold jet of high-pressure nitrous oxide directly to the skin lesion. It offers pinpoint accuracy and allows me to treat even the smallest of lesions including those on the face.
Common benign lesions*
Skin tags
Benign moles
Solar lentigines (sun, age and liver spots)
Cherry Angiomas
Seborrhoeic keratosis
Benign moles
Warts**
Verrucas**
Angiofibromas
Dermatofibromas
*Please note, I am not a qualified dermatologist therefore I am unable to diagnose skin lesions, therefore I will advise you if I feel that you should seek a definitive diagnosis from a GP/Dermatologist.
**Due the viral nature of Warts and Verruca, pre-treatment may be required to prepare the skin prior to treatment.
Will the treatment be painful?
Generally there is little to no discomfort during the treatment, however a slight cold, stinging sensation may be experienced.
What can you expect after the treatment?
Initially you will experience redness to the area, and in some cases may blister, this is completely normal and expected. Once the blister has gone the lesion will scab over. Typical healing depends upon the depth of the treatment but can take 2-4 weeks. Once the scab has fallen off naturally you will experience a pinkness to the skin, this is new tissue not scarring and may persist for up to 6 months.
How many treatments will you need?
This is dependent upon the type, size and depth of the lesion, with some lesions needing multiple treatments. You will be reviewed after 2-4 weeks to determine if further treatments are required
Cost
Single treatment for 1 lesion from £60 (Dependent upon type and size).
Further lesions within the same treatment session £10
Note: Suitability for treatment will be determined during consultation.
